U Kansas Adopts Streaming IPTV Service

The University of Kansas has implemented streaming IPTV service for students, faculty and staff.

In 2015, the university partnered with Apogee, a provider of campus residential network (ResNet) and video solutions, to introduce network services to its residential communities that opened at the beginning of the 2015-16 school year. The university has now expanded that partnership to include Apogee's new IPTV service, Stream2, which the company unveiled in December 2015.

According to information from Apogee, the Stream2 service features high-definition video programming and premium channels, as well as university content with social media channels, all of which can be streamed on mobile devices.

The university has also subscribed to Apogee's premium support suite, which lets students call, text, chat or email for support anytime. "The fact that our students can reach real human support almost immediately was crucial in us choosing Apogee as our partner," said Diana Robertson, director of KU Student Housing, in a prepared statement.

Other features of Apogee's Stream2 service include:

  • Custom branding and content curation with a higher education focus;
  • Full integration with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and other social media channels;
  • No need for set-top boxes or in-room equipment;
  • Integrated service to support both legacy and IP video in the campus environment; and
  • Anytime support for students, faculty and staff.

"Our focus is on providing flexible and mobile solutions to KU students, faculty and staff so they can access information wherever and whenever they want," said Bob Lim, chief information officer at the University of Kansas in a prepared statement. "Apogee's Stream2 service integrates entertainment and KU content with social media channels, creating an all-in-one managed experience that is easy to access anywhere on campus."
