John Jay College of Criminal Justice Taps Tech for Student Collaboration

In an effort to foster student collaboration and shared projects, John Jay College of Criminal Justice has deployed five FSR HuddleVU Collaboration Systems in small-group study rooms on campus. The technology allows multiple users to share content from laptops, tablets and smartphones and view it on a main display, according to a company statement.
A selling point for the college was that the HuddleVU systems provide a self-contained solution, including video switching equipment, control hardware, display power control and color-coded HDMI cables. "Everything was built-in so we didn't have to reconfigure the current space," noted Geng Lin, library systems manager at John Jay.
John Jay first installed two HuddleVU systems in its Lloyd Sealy Library and began promoting them via digital signage, the library website and student notifications. The technology became so popular that the college added the systems in three more study rooms. "Each installation was accomplished in one day and came in under budget," according to a news release.
Reception among students has been positive, and the college plans to add systems as space becomes available. "Students are extremely happy with the equipment — they are really enjoying it," said Lin. "It has been a great experience overall."
