Wiley Debuts Assessment-as-a-Service Tool

John Wiley and Sons has launched Wiley Assessment Service, a new tool the company describes as an "assessment-as-a-service" offering.

The new tool is part of the company's WileyPlus, an online teaching and learning platform that offers a range of tools, including automated grading for practice, homework, quizzes and tests, course creation tools, tools for tracking learning trends and a student dashboard, among others.

Wiley Assessment Service allows instructors to build assignments, quizzes or tests using more than 2 million assets and more than a dozen different question types. Students can access assignments made with the tool through WileyPlus or their school's learning management system (LMS) and will receive immediate feedback as they answer questions.

"The higher education market is undergoing rapid change, demanding not only high-quality learning materials, but materials delivered in new ways, designed to achieve desired learning outcomes for students," said Ella Balagula, executive vice president for knowledge and learning at Wiley, in a prepared statement. "To meet the needs of our customers we must develop products that provide content in ever more flexible ways and the Wiley Assessment Service does just that."

Initially, the service will connect to WileyPlus Next Generation and the Canvas LMS, though connections to Blackboard and Brightspace are planned for next year, as well.
