AWS Cloud Computing Degree to Go Statewide in TX
A new associate degree in cloud computing developed by the Dallas County Community College District Office (DCCCD) and Amazon Web Services will be offered at every Texas community college and technical school in spring 2020.
The 60-credit-hour curriculum will utilize the AWS Educate platform and give students the opportunity to earn industry-recognized credentials that will help them get jobs as software engineers, software architects and data engineers.
DCCCD is looking into offering cloud computing classes at Brookhaven, El Centro, North Lake and Richland colleges this spring. DCCCD is also working with AWS to develop a dual-credit option for high school students.
"To have this new initiative made available not only to DCCCD students, but to learners across Texas, is unparalleled," said Joe May, DCCCD's chancellor. "Our exciting new partnership with Amazon Web Services will introduce a wide array of students to the world of cloud computing, while equipping them with the education and skills necessary to prove successful in today's ever-advancing workforce."
AWS is working with several institutions to provide students with opportunities to earn cloud computing credentials. George Mason University and Northern Community College (NOVA) have partnered with the company to develop a pathway to earn a bachelor's degree. Another cloud computing credentialing effort is also in the works at community colleges in California's Bay Area.
