MIT OpenCourseWare Chief Named Massachusetts CIO

Anne, Margulies, the executive director of MIT's groundbreaking OpenCourseWare initiative, has been named chief information officer and assistant secretary of the Executive Office of Administration and Finance of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

At MIT, Margulies helped the university launch the OpenCourseWare, or OCW, project, whose goal was to make the school's entire curriculum available worldwide via the Internet. Shortly after she takes on her new job, MIT is expected to put its 1,800th course online.

Margulies came to MIT in 2002 from a Washington, DC public affairs firm and spent more than a decade at Harvard University in information technology roles that included assistant provost and executive director of the university's information systems department.

Margulies, who will become the fourth CIO of Massachusetts in two years, starts her job after day Labor Day.
