Report Available from Interagency Working Group on Digital Data

The Interagency Working Group on Digital Data of the National Science and Technology Council's Committee on Science has made available its January 2009 report that outlines a strategy for preservation and access to digital scientific data. The Executive Summary states its vision of "a digital scientific data universe in which data creation, collection, documentation, analysis, preservation, and dissemination can be appropriately, reliably, and readily managed. This will enhance the return on our nation's research and development investment by ensuring that digital data realize their full potential as catalysts for progress in our global information society." The agency factored the contributions of representatives from 22 federal agencies into its report. The report, "Harnessing the Power of Digital Data for Science and Society" can be downloaded from http://www.nitrd.gov/about/Harnessing_Power_Web.pdf.
