Duke Deepens Wireless Coverage

Duke University is deploying ADC's FlexWave and InterReach Fusion distributed antenna systems to improve wireless coverage and capacity across its campus in Durham, NC.

Although served by traditional cell towers around the property, the Duke campus has many buildings and outdoor areas that don't receive adequate coverage or capacity, the institution said in a statement. The university is addressing this challenge with a hybrid solution that uses the company's distributed and in-building antennas to extend coverage to new areas. Duke University had previously installed ADC equipment in 25 of its 220 buildings, including Duke University Hospital.

"We have worked with ADC and its wireless systems successfully over the years, so understanding their technology and capabilities was important when we sought to further enhance coverage across broader areas of the campus," said Bob Johnson, senior director for Duke. "This hybrid plan allows us to quickly cover large areas of the campus and then upgrade priority areas with additional outdoor and in-building systems."
