UC Santa Cruz and UC Merced To Manage Rec Facilities with Active Network Apps

Two University of California schools, one in Santa Cruz and the other in Merced, will be implementing products from Active Network for managing the processes in their recreational programs. In May 2010 UC Santa Cruz signed on for the company's software-as-a-service application, ActiveNet, for handling transactions related to its Office of Physical Education, Recreation Sports (OPERS). Features in the application include activity registration, facility reservations, point-of-sale, and finance and accounting.

"Using Active Network's campus recreation software, UC Santa Cruz's OPERS has moved its operations from a labor intensive and expensive process to a management system that streamlines procedures, is user friendly, and most of all cost effective," said Todd Hammonds, facility manager of OPERS.

In June 2010 the University of California, Merced purchased a hybrid license, which will allow it to run some components on its own servers. The university's Recreation and Athletics Department offers intramural sports, open recreation, adult recreation classes, sport clubs, fitness programs, and special interest programs to its students and community.

"As the UC Merced campus continues to grow, we needed to find an operating solution that could expand with the department's increased offerings and provide all the functionality necessary to continue seamless daily operations," said David Dunham, director of recreation for UC Merced.

Active Network software is also in use at other California universities, including UC Santa Barbara, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, and California State University, Sacramento.
