MySQL Enterprise Adds Backup and Workbench Tools

Oracle recently updated its MySQL 5.5 Enterprise Edition subscription service. The update adds new tools for design, development, administration, and backup, as well as enhancements to existing tools.

This update adds MySQL Enterprise Backup and MySQL Workbench to MySQL Enterprise Edition. My SQL Enterprise Backup enables full, incremental, or partial "hot" online backups of MySQL databases. It also supports point-in-time recovery and backup compression. MySQL Workbench provides data modeling, SQL development tools, and comprehensive administration tools.

This update also includes enhancements to MySQL Enterprise Monitor. It introduces new rules and graphs, including new MySQL, InnoDB, and operating system-specific graphs that improve visual monitoring of key systems for real-time and historical trending purposes.

MySQL support is now integrated with the 24/7 MyOracle Support service, providing a unified support interface for MySQL and Oracle Database customers.

MySQL 5.5 Enterprise Edition includes:

  • MySQL Database;
  • MySQL Query Analyzer;
  • MySQL Enterprise Monitor 2.3;
  • MySQL Enterprise Backup 3.5;
  • MySQL Workbench 5.2; and
  • Integration with MyOracle Support.

MySQL Enterprise Edition supports multiple operating systems, including Linux and Windows.

The update to MySQL 5.5 Enterprise Edition is now available. A MySQL Enterprise Edition subscription costs $5,000 to $15,000 for a one- to four-socket server or $10,000 to $30,000 for a five-socket server or higher. Further information about MySQL Enterprise Edition is available here.
