Wyse Technology has publicly debuted its new Wyse X class, a line of mobile "laptop" thin clients that support all desktop and application virtualization environments.

The Wyse X class mobile thin clients are available with SUSE Linux or Windows Embedded Standard operating systems or Wyse WSM for provisioned environments, and they support integration with Citrix, Microsoft, and VMware. They enable mobile and remote users to use VMware View 5 Local Mode or Wyse WSM Cruiser Mode, so they can work even when they are disconnected from the network while remaining secure and synchronized with the virtualized infrastructure.

There are two families of Wyse X class mobile thin clients available: the "c" class family of widescreen ultraportables and the "m" class family of widescreen desktop replacements.

Key features of the Wyse X class "c" family include:

  • An 11-inch LED backlit display;
  • Intel Atom Z520 1.33 GHz processor;
  • SUSE Linux, Windows Embedded Standard 2009, or Windows Embedded Standard 7 operating systems, or Wyse WSM for provisioned environments
  • Integrated wireless 802.11 b/g/n;
  • Built-in 1.3 megapixel camera with microphone (not available on X50c model);
  • VGA video output;
  • Three USB 2.0 ports;
  • Audio in and out ports;
  • 10/100 Base-T Ethernet port; and
  • 4-in-1 media slot.

Key features of the Wyse X class "m" family include:

  • An 14-inch LED backlit display;
  • Dual-core AMD G-Series accelerated processing unit (APU) that combines CPU, GPU, and HD video decoding;
  • Two SuperSpeed USB 3.0 ports;
  • One USB 2.0 port;
  • Windows Embedded Standard 2009 or Windows Embedded Standard 7 operating systems;
  • Integrated wireless 802.11 b/g/n;
  • Built-in 1.3 megapixel camera with microphone (not available on X50c model);
  • Gigabit Ethernet port;
  • Kensington lock slot;
