HPC Advisory Council's Student Cluster Competition Opens
The HPC Advisory Council (HPCPC)
and the ISC High Performance Conference,
formerly known as the International Supercomputing Conference, have launched the
ISC 2015 Student Cluster Competition.
Eleven teams of undergraduate students will participate in the real-time
competition, which will take place on the ISC 2015 exhibit floor. Prior to the
competition, team members will work with supervisors and vendor partners to
design and build a computing cluster and learn the predetermined HPC
applications. The cluster must use commercially available components and operate
within power limits. At ISC 2015, the teams will "race to demonstrate the
greatest performance across a series of benchmarks and applications," according
to HPCAC. Following the competition, all student participants will be recognized
and winners will be awarded on the main conference keynote stage.
According to Gilad Shainer, chairman of the HPC Advisory Council, the ISC
Student Cluster Competition "is an excellent educational opportunity for
students around the world to showcase their knowledge and skillsets and to
engage with leading commercial vendors," he said in a prepared statement.
Thousands of members of the international HPC community will attend the main
conference keynote address when the Student Cluster Competition participants and
winners are announced and will also be able to watch the real-time competition
on the exhibit floor.
The ISC Student Cluster Competition will take place from July 11 to 15, 2015
in Frankfurt, Germany. Student sponsorship is available to help competitors pay
for travel and accommodations.
