U Pittsburgh Updates Portal with OneCampus Platform

Students, faculty and staff at the University of Pittsburgh now have one-click access to campus services and information via any device. The institution partnered with rSmart and Internet2 to implement the Internet2 NET+ OneCampus platform, connecting users to hundreds of applications such as registration, grades and e-mail in an online marketplace format. Google-like search, ratings and review functions identify what services are being used most and track satisfaction levels. In addition, Internet2's InCommon federated identity management system enables single sign-on authentication for secure services.

As a member of the Internet2 NET+ service validation process, Pitt helped develop the Internet2 NET+ OneCampus offering for higher education institutions, along with technology leaders from Indiana University, University of Utah, University of Maryland, Clemson University, University of Nebraska-Omaha, and BYU-Idaho. Representatives from the participating institutions serve as OneCampus advisory board members to "provide input on market trends and the product roadmap to Internet2 and rSmart."

"After completing the Internet2 NET+ service validation process, we recognized that OneCampus provided Pitt with a powerful alternative to our traditional legacy portal that will better serve our user needs going forward," said Dan Menicucci, enterprise architect at the University of Pittsburgh, in a press release. "During the early adoption phase, we plan to run OneCampus in parallel with our current portal to ensure a smooth transition and we will begin to retire our legacy software later this year."
