The Ohio State University Rolls Out BYOD Student Engagement Tool

With a focus on creating an active learning environment in the classroom, The Ohio State University is deploying the Top Hat classroom engagement system to nearly 65,000 students and 7,000 faculty members.

Using the devices students already own, such as smartphones, tablets and laptops, Top Hat allows professors to deliver their lecture from anywhere in the room and poll students to instantly gauge their understanding. Professors can automatically take attendance, present interactive slides, launch six different types of questions, facilitate open discussion and get real-time feedback. Outside of the classroom, the Top Hat platform can be used for assigning homework, automatic grading and digital content.

Founded in 2009, Top Hat now boasts more than 500 university customers, including Seton Hall University, the University of Georgia and the University of Calgary.
