IQ Onsite Launches Proximity-Based Security App for Schools

IQ Onsite has launched a new app, Campus Ping, designed to improve response times in campus security situations.

Campus Ping uses wireless Gimbal beacon transmitters to improve location identity over GPS-only systems, particularly when the user is inside a building. Other features of the app include:

  • A silent alarm button faculty can use to alert security to an immediate threat in a specific area such as a classroom;
  • Targeted alerts that allow campus security to publish notifications to students and faculty in specific locations. Targeted alerts can be used to notify users of threats, such as assaults or other crimes, or to improve the efficiency of non-emergency requests;
  • Direct and immediate access to security personnel for students on and off campus; and
  • The ability for the administration to use the app to distribute information about services, special events and more.

"We've created a custom app solution that provides a 'silent alarm' based on proximate GPS coordinates utilizing beacon technologies," said James Woodrow, spokesperson for IQ Onsite, in a prepared statement. "While there are many apps in the marketplace that offer one-way communication between a university and its students, this new infrastructure provides a multi-tier platform for instant security alerts to be communicated to or from students and faculty immediately."
