Beginning this fall, Union County College students will have access to digital textbooks and other online course materials on the first day of class through an agreement the New Jersey college has signed with Cengage.

The company, which just announced a merger agreement with McGraw-Hill, sells Cengage Unlimited subscriptions, which allow institutional customers to use any of its 22,000 different products, including e-books, online homework access codes and study guides. Students pay a single price for their individual access. At Union County, the price will be $130 for the academic year.

"Union County College is pleased to partner with Cengage to provide our students with this revolutionary cost savings textbook service," said Union President Margaret McMenamin, in a statement. "This initiative is one more way in which we accomplish our mission of offering an affordable, accessible and high-quality education at Union."

Bernard Polnariev, Union's dean of Curriculum, Accreditation and American Honors, added that he considers the Cengage program a "game-changer for our students," providing a more affordable way for students to access materials.

New Jersey school Warren County Community College also has a subscription to the service, among many others around the country.
