Butler County Community College to Engage Students with Video Tools

Pennsylvania's Butler County Community College has invested in Echo360's video management and active learning platform to help engage students across online, hybrid and in-person formats. Faculty can now stream and record lectures and other course content from anywhere, while students can access video content 24/7 via computer or mobile device.

The platform offers a number of active learning functions:

  • Note-taking tools automatically time-synch students' notes to the video lecture;
  • Embedded quizzes and polls help gauge student comprehension; and
  • Online discussions are linked directly to relevant course content, enhancing student collaboration with faculty and peers.

In addition, analytics tools allow faculty to track student engagement with course content and identify those at risk of falling behind.

"Thanks to the hard work of our faculty and students, our community was able to quickly transition to remote instruction and continue teaching and learning in the midst of a global pandemic. This was an important accomplishment that we must continue to build on to provide our current and future students with the best possible learning experience whether they are learning online or in-person," commented Ann McCandless, dean of educational technology at the college, in a statement. "With Echo360, we can allow students to more easily access and engage with our existing library of video content while providing faculty with simple to use tools to create new and innovative instructional materials and in turn provide the best possible instruction for their students."
