Alabama Community College System Expands Canvas Use with New Tools

The Alabama Community College System (ACCS) has signed a three-year deal with Instructure extending its use of the Canvas learning management system for 12 of its colleges. The schools are also adding the company's Canvas Studio and Portfolium tools in order to "provide greater flexibility and equity in how courses are delivered and assessed," according to a news announcement.

Canvas Studio provides tools for creating interactive video content Features include in-video discussion, embedded quizzes, feedback tools, analytics and more.

Portfolium is an e-portfolio tool integrated within Canvas that allows students to document their learning and showcase skills to potential employers. It pairs with Pathways, a badging tool that offers students custom, stackable pathways for navigating their college journey as well as a roadmap for acquiring new skills and competencies. It also powers Program Assessment, Instructure's solution for higher ed assessment and accreditation.

Use of the Canvas LMS will also allow ACCS campuses to share best practices in instructional design through the product's collaboration tools, the announcement said.

"Our schools have relied on Canvas to create a reliable and robust teaching and learning environment for many years now," commented Jimmy H. Baker, chancellor of the Alabama Community College System, in a statement. "The utilization of these tools will help our faculty provide an unparalleled educational experience for students, so they are prepared for the careers of tomorrow."
