Notre Dame Sharpens Online Alumni Offerings

The University of Notre Dame is revamping its alumni relations with social networking and online engagement capabilities, which it will provide to roughly 120,000 graduates in more than 300 alumni clubs, classes and affinity groups.

Using the Kintera Sphere from Kintera (San Diego), Notre Dame's alumni association site will move beyond the typical directory service to provide a platform that lets graduates create, update, and link personal Web pages and even access career and professional networking resources.

To secure the site, Kintera's system incorporates measures such as PCI and SAS 70  Type II compliance; security was a "vital" consideration, according to Chuck Lennon, executive director of the Notre Dame Alumni Association.

Using Kinera's virtual account technology, the University will provide customizable data access rights and privileges for the 2,000 data segments in its database. This would help a regional alumni club manage its data and communications for only members specific to that organization.

Notre Dame's other online alumni offerings include e-mail forwarding, a football ticket consignment service, and tools to help alumni donors track their donations.
