Mitsubishi Debuts 4 DLP Projectors

Mitsubishi has introduced two dual-lamp DLP projectors and two 3D-ready DLP projectors. The announcements were made at the InfoComm 2010 conference in Las Vegas, NV last week.

The dual-lamp projectors, dubbed the XD8100U and XD8200U, are designed to be continuous-use projectors with bulbs that require only one hour of shut down for every week of operation.

The XD8100U offers a 1,024 x 768 (XGA) resolution and a brightness of 7,000 lumens, while the XD8200U offers a 1,280 x 800 (WXGA) resolution and a brightness of 5,000 lumens.

On both systems, lamp settings that switch between single- and dual-bulb modes and a heat pipe cooling system that's similar to a car radiator are used to enable non-stop operation. In addition, the cooling system operates without the use of a cooling fan, minimizing noise during operation.

Other features common to the two models include:

  • Geographic morphing for projecting images on curved or arched surfaces;
  • Mitsubishi Super Resolution, an algorithm used to enhance sharpness;
  • RJ-45 connectivity;
  • HDMI inputs; and
  • Color matching and edge blending technology for synchronizing with an additional unit to produce a single, larger image that blends either horizontally or vertically.

The two 3D-ready projectors, the EW230U-ST and the EX270U, feature 1,280 x 800 (WXGA) native resolutions and offer RJ-45 connectivity, with Crestron RoomView Software for management, monitoring, and control.

The EW230U-ST is a short-throw model with a brightness of 2,400 lumens, while the EX270U sports a longer throw distance and offers a brightness of 2,600 lumens.

Common features include support for HDMI video sources, 4,000 hours of lamp life, direct power off, a security bar, and RS-232 control.

All four projectors are covered by a three-year limited parts and labor/one year lamp warranty.
