College of William and Mary Chooses Cloud-Based CRM System

The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA, has decided to change customer relationship management systems to "enhance our ability to communicate with prospects and make it possible to maintain an ongoing conversation," according to Senior Associate Dean of Admissions Tim Wolfe.

The school, which was on the hunt for a recruiting tool that would be more efficient and effective, has selected cloud-based Student Recruitment Manager, developed by TargetX. It was chosen as one part of an overall communications strategy at the college.

Student Recruitment Manager, which is built on the Force.com platform, provides colleges and universities with recruitment tools from the first time a student contacts the university through to enrollment.

"This will make it possible to keep track of all our communications," said Betsy Dolan Quinzio, senior assistant dean of admissions, "and to ensure that we are sending students only the most relevant communications." She said another feature of specific interest to the college is the event manager.

Additional features of the SRM include:

  • Email blast and web chat tools;
  • Tracking of potential students' social media interactions on Facebook and Twitter;
  • Real-time data transfer to and from campus information systems;
  • Creation of up to 40 standardized reports;
  • An exchange with approximately 850 add-on apps with capabilities such as videoconferencing, and computer-telephony integration;
  • Ability to import lists from a variety of testing services, including SAT, ACT, and GRE;
  • A campus visit scheduler; and
  • An online application.

The College of William and Mary has 8,200 students in more 30-plus undergraduate and 10 graduate programs and professional degree programs. It has three campuses, in Williamsburg, Gloucester Point (Virginia Institute of Marine Science campus), and Washington, D.C. (Dupont Circle).
