Turnitin Improves Plagiarism Detection Integration with D2L Learning Suite 10

Turnitin and Desire2Learn have announced enhancements to the integration of OriginalityCheck and GradeMark with Desire2Learn Learning Suite 10.

Turnitin OriginalityCheck is a plagiarism detection tool that compares student papers against a text comparison database to help instructors identify improper citation and potential plagiarism. Turnitin GradeMark is a paperless grading tool that enables instructors to apply highlights, comments, and QuickMark editing marks to student papers in digital format.

With the enhanced integration of OriginalityCheck and GradeMark with Desire2Learn Learning Suite 10, OriginalityCheck and GradeMark are now available as options for Learning Environment dropbox folders. When instructors create dropbox folders in Learning Environment, they can specify whether to use OriginalityCheck and GradeMark, configure optional settings, such as whether to make originality reports available to students, and then students can submit files to the dropbox folder as usual. Once the teacher has marked the paper using GradeMark, the student can access the GradeMark markup directly through the Desire2Learn Learning Environment interface.

According to information released by Desire2Learn, instructors using the GradeMark integration can "save up to 50 percent of their grading time when evaluating student writing by using the GradeMark drag-and-drop QuickMark comments, grading rubrics, and voice comments."

New Turnitin integration features in Desire2Learn Learning Environment 10 include:

  • Deeper integration with GradeMark for grading workflows;
  • Support for GradeMark Post Date;
  • Language Term changes (Originality Checking);
  • Support for Grammar Check;
  • Ability to change Turnitin settings after folder creation;
  • Link to Turnitin assignment options; and
  • Support for Copy Course Components.

The integration also provides instructors in the United States with access to the ETS e-rater grammar checker and writing handbooks, which are integrated with Turnitin.
