Lone Star College System Adopts New LMS to Boost Student Completion

Lone Star College System (LSCS) has adopted a new learning management system to support its efforts to improve student completion rates.

The 90,000-student community college system is implementing Desire2Learn (D2L) "across six campuses and online in 24 states," according to a statement released this week by the institution. The institution selected the solution following an eight-month review—which included surveys, focus groups, hands-on evaluations, and product demonstrations—conducted by its LMS Evaluation Committee. The committee was comprised of administrators, faculty members, students, and school staff.

"Members of our evaluation committee did a thorough job working through this evaluation process," said LSCS chancellor Dr. Richard Carpenter, in the prepared statement. "This new system is equipped to assist LSCS faculty and students well into the future and will help increase student completion, our top priority."

LSCS has begun training on the new LMS. The institution plans to test drive the system during a summer pilot program with select courses. All faculty members will have opportunity to teach courses through the new platform beginning this fall. LSCS aims to wrap up the migration by year's end and have all courses running on D2L by January 2014.
