Walden U Launches Online Elementary Ed Bachelor

Walden University has launched a new online bachelor of science degree program for students interested in becoming elementary school teachers.

Dubbed BS in Elementary Education (Teacher Licensure), the new program is offered by the university's Richard W. Riley College of Education and Leadership and is designed to prepare students for the teaching certification required by most public school districts in the United States. It's the first undergraduate program for elementary educators for the college, which usually focuses on working professionals.

"The program is designed to create well-rounded teacher candidates through core and general education courses, as well as higher-level courses focused on certification preparation and the real-world classroom experience," according to a news release. "Coursework will explore the integration of technology in the classroom, building family partnerships, collaboration and literacy, and will incorporate the opportunity to apply best practices through in-person experiences in kindergarten through sixth-grade classrooms."

"Teaching our youth is a critically important career, and at Walden, we are proud to offer a flexible program that will meet the needs of today's best teacher candidates and provide them with the quality foundation for success," said Janet Williams, dean of the school of education and professional licensure, in a prepared statement.
