Rice U Launches Data Analytics Boot Camp
A Trilogy-powered data analytics boot camp at the University of Southern California
Rice University has intoduced a new program geared toward working adults looking to bone up on their data science skills. The 24-week Data Analytics Boot Camp was developed in partnership with workforce acclerator Trilogy Education.
The curriculum covers topics such as programming in Excel, statistics, Python, SQL and MongoDB databased, front-end web visualiation, JavaScript and Tableau. Classes will be held weekday evenings and weekends, with students spending 20 hours a week on "outside projects, homework and experiential learning activites, ranging from visualizing bike sharing data in Houston to mapping worldwide earthquakes in real-time," according to a news announcement.
Students will showcase their coursework in a project portfolio that can be shared with potential employers. The program provides career-planning services, portfolio reviews, recruiting assistance and other support.
"Over 90 percent of all data has been generated in the past two years," said Robert Bruce, dean of Rice's Glasscock School of Continuing Studies, in a statement. "From oil and gas exploration to financial services, nearly every industry in Houston needs professionals who have the ability to translate this explosion of data into actionable insights. By leveraging Trilogy Education's platform and expertise, we can quickly expand access to the skills local professionals in Houston need to pursue rewarding careers in this rapidly growing sector."
