San Joaquin Valley College Gamifies Learning Support

San Joaquin Valley College, a private for-profit institution focused on career training, has created a new resource for online students that gamifies co-curricular learning outcomes to help boost student success. The Career Academy is an interactive hub that uses game mechanics to provide students with coaching and training and motivate them to master skills for lifelong learning, the college explained in a news announcement.

Through the Career Academy, students can explore hundreds of games, puzzles, topics and modules, as well as socialize, compete or collaborate with peers. In addition, the platform offers tailored content curated for each individual based on their program of study and overall assessment.

"Many forward-thinking institutions have experimented with gamifying courses with great success," said Pat Fox corporate director of eLearning Curriculum, Instruction and Student Services at SJVC, in a statement. "At SJVC, however, we have created a fully integrated system that leverages data from the time students start their orientation, throughout their program to deliver the best choices of games to the student at just the right time. Students are very excited by the wide range of content, so much so that most students play far more games than are required to fulfil their professionalism requirement."

The Career Academy is available to every student enrolled in SJVC's online programs.
