Sony Electronics Announces New IP-Based 4K PTZ Cameras With Built-in AI Analytics

Sony PTZ cameras

Sony Electronics will expand its pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) camera lineup later this year with two new 4K models, the SRG-A40 and SRG-A12. Using AI analytics, these cameras automatically track and frame presenters, regardless of movement or posture, with no computer operation required. Features also include automated image quality, IP flexibility, and powerful zoom.

Both cameras use the Exmor R CMOS sensor for high-quality, vivid images with less noise that support 4K 30p and full HD 60p, the company said in its release. The SRG-A40 digitally doubles the optical zoom from 20x to 30x in 4K or 40x in full HD. With tele-convert it can go up to 80x zoom. The SRG-A12 provides up to 12x zoom, but can extend up to 24x.

Some of the features of these new cameras include:

  • Flexible connectivity for 3G-SDI, HDMI, and IP (NDI®|HX through optional licenses);
  • Multiple auto framing angles for close-ups, waist-up, or full-body images;
  • Advanced recognition technologies, including facial recognition and detection of masked faces;
  • A tally light to identify easily which camera is actively in use and tracking movements;
  • Support for Real Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP) for remote viewing, and Security Reliable Transport (SRT) protocol for safe, smooth, stable video streaming; and
  • Simple setup and use for operators with differing levels of ability, including duplicating menu settings from camera to camera.

A demonstration video of how these features work, as well as more detailed specifications for each camera, can be downloaded on the SRG-A40 specs page and the SRG-A12 specs page.

"Our latest PTZ cameras truly represent a new generation," said Rich Ventura, vice president of Sony's Professional Display Solutions. "While they incorporate the image quality that is Sony's bedrock, these efficient new models are even smarter than ever … a new user-friendly series that enables mounting freedom, prioritizes location-free operation and creates a streamlined workflow that empowers operators with varying degrees of expertise to create extremely professional content while keeping operating costs down."

The new cameras are expected to be available in September 2023 in North America.
