Airtame Launches 'Share to Call' to Enable Hassle-Free Screen-Sharing

Screen-sharing technology provider Airtame has released a new feature, Share to Call, on its hybrid conferencing platform to make screen sharing easy, the company said in a release. With Share to Call, anyone can instantly share their screen in a Zoom or Microsoft Teams call from their personal device without having to go through a lengthy process.

According to Airtame, the process is easy:

  • One meeting participant starts the call as a "room host" using Airtame Hub.
  • A second user in the room can launch the Airtame application, select the room/device and click "share screen."
  • A pin code appears on the screen to verify the user is in the room and permitted to share.
  • The sharing user can share their entire screen or a specific window, with no notifications or other undesirable screen content.
  • The user's screen is then visible both locally in the classroom and to remote participants using Teams or Zoom.

Local participants can share through the Airtame desktop app, and Miracast, AirPlay, and Google Cast compatibility will be available soon, according to the release.

Prior to this new feature, those in a hybrid class or conference who wanted to share their screen, even in the same room with others, had to mute their microphone and speaker, turn off their camera, and start sharing. Airtame CEO Susanne Lund called this "a major pain point that the industry has adopted and has yet to change in a way that is truly easy and intuitive for the schools."

Share to Call changes that, she said, making content sharing quick, easy, and "truly equitable because it makes it just as easy for in-person meeting participants to share their screens as it is for remote participants."

To use the new feature, the device's hardware, Airtame Hub, needs to be updated to version 5.2, and the software app, Airtame Rooms, to version 4.6.3.
