Pace University to Launch New AI Lab

Pace University will launch an artificial intelligence (AI) lab at its new Seidenberg School of Computer Science and Information Systems at its New York City campus, the university said.

The lab will offer training for students, faculty, and staff, as well extending training to the larger business and resident community, "leveraging Pace's extensive expertise in AI research and development, which spans over 30 years," according to a release.

Pace said the lab will also serve the New York technology community and will include "planned meetups and networking for local professionals to connect and learn about the latest industry developments."

In addition, the university is launching two new graduate degree programs for next year, both of which will include practical skills for "the next generation of AI innovators":

  • Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence, with emphasis on theory and AI application development; and
  • Master of Science in Applied Artificial Intelligence, with emphasis on AI use in business and other endeavors, featuring hands-on training.

"The AI Lab at Pace University will permit us to consolidate, strengthen and extend the existing AI initiatives and create exciting new ones in education and research, leveraging partnerships within and outside the university," said Christelle Scharff, associate dean and professor of Computer Science at the Seidenberg School.

The Seidenberg School is one of the "first comprehensive schools of computing in the nation," the university said, and maintains partnerships with "tech firms, banks, federal agencies, and global institutions" in order to offer its students fundamentals and practical, hands-on training in "artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data science, game development, software engineering, and more."
