Unicon Launches Support Program for Jasig's Central Authentication Service

Open source software consulting firm Unicon has recently announced a new Open Source Cooperative Support Program for Jasig's Central Authentication Service (CAS)--a secure authentication system and single sign-on service originally developed by Yale University.

According to the announcement, Unicon will offer several services aimed at helping institutions deploy CAS including planning, installation, configuration, custom development, and application and system integration, among others. The company said it plans to release all development work and fixes related to CAS back to the community.

"Jasig is very pleased to see a Unicon service offering for CAS," said Jonathan Markow, executive director of Jasig, in a prepared statement. "Unicon has been a contributor to the CAS project for a number of years, and they have broad experience implementing CAS at higher education institutions. The Unicon Cooperative Support Program has been important to many uPortal institutions. The availability of a similar, high quality, commercial service for CAS should be just as well received."

According to Unicon, the CAS service offerings come in response to increased demand for the authentication service throughout the higher education community. Over the last 10 years the company has provided consulting services for more than 175 colleges and universities.
