U Wisconsin-Eau Claire To Automate Document Workflow

The University of Wisconsin Eau Claire has selected a new business process system from BP Logix to automate workflow and approval of payroll, personnel, and human resources forms. The university expects to begin deploying its initial group of forms based on the new software in early May, as it concurrently evaluates Lean manufacturing and the value stream mapping process.
UW-Eau Claire undertook an evaluation process for a workflow/electronic forms solution based on several technology requirements:
- It needed to be Web-based and not tied to a single browser;
- The software needed to offer cross-platform compatibility between Windows and Mac;
- It had to be easy to install and use; and
- Its pricing needed to be competitive. After several months of evaluation and extensive demos and research, UW-Eau Claire selected BP Logix's Workflow Director.
The new software provides functionality for routing, collaboration, review and approval, and tracking of documents. Documents can be converted into eforms for routing. The software also includes auditing and reporting features as well as document management, such as imaging, publishing, security, compliance, and control.
"BP Logix Workflow Director was the only product that met or exceeded all of our requirements for a workflow solution," said CIO Chip Eckardt.
UW-Eau Claire has created a public blog to report on the progress of its implementation. According to a recent entry, the school has named a five-member project team to begin the forms conversion project. "The team included a software programmer, a documentation specialist, a forms designer, a strategic project manager, an LTS unit manager, and a full-time information systems student intern," reported Donna Raleigh, strategic projects manager in the learning and technology services department.
