Universities Woo Continuing Ed Students on Facebook with Jenzabar Widget


Jenzabar's Higher Reach allows potential students to browse course catalogs through Facebook.

Two universities are the first to use a widget from education technology company Jenzabar to give prospective students a quick way to access a course form directly from Facebook. Emory Continuing Education in Atlanta and California State University San Marcos are both users of Jenzabar's Higher Reach, a set of administrative applications for managing continuing education programs that make the linkage possible.

In 2011 the company introduced a feature that allows users to create a Facebook catalog application to connect the continuing education catalog with the school's Facebook page. The widget enables a Facebook user to browse and "shop" for class offerings from within the social networking site.

"Jenzabar Higher Reach provides...the tools needed to stay focused on continuing education-specific goals," said Chris Hartigan, company vice president and general manager for the Continuing Education Business Unit. "Social shopping, particularly on Facebook, has gained widespread acceptance across consumer businesses. By bringing our continuing education platform together with Facebook, our clients now have even greater reach for their programs and offerings that will help them maximize their enrollment and revenue goals."
