Hodges University has reported a 250 percent increase in online enrollment following its adoption of the
Tegrity Campus 2.0 service, a class capture Web service for higher education. Hodges deployed Tegrity in fall 2007 in an effort to provide more flexible learning tools to help students boost academic achievement.
Of the 2,100 students currently enrolled at Hodges, about a third are taking at least one online course.
"Enhancement of our course management system with Tegrity differentiates us from other institutions and is a primary reason for the 250 percent increase in our online enrollment since 2007," said Peter Van Leeuwen, associate professor and director of distance education at Hodges. "Tegrity has exceeded all our expectations."
Hodges will offer students the ability to record presentations for courses to share with professors and peers in January 2009.
"I absolutely love the Tegrity sessions and would find it difficult to understand as much without them," said one unidentified Hodges student in a vendor statement. "I need the actual 'lecture,' which a usual online class does not provide. It's great for taking notes too, because you can pause anytime to make sure you got what you needed. Exams would be really difficult if I didn't have the notes I've taken from Tegrity sessions. I don't see why more professors don't make good use of such a great tool!"
Hodges is located in Naples and Fort Myers, FL and has about 2,100 students.
