CMS Vendor Systems Alliance Adds Video Services

Systems Alliance, an IT consulting company that sells SiteExecutive, a content management system used in higher education, recently released a hosted online video service. MediaExecutive allows users to upload videos, play them for viewers, and manage video libraries within their Web sites.

"While YouTube, Facebook, and other ad-supported video services do a great job of simplifying content delivery, they do so at a cost to brand and content integrity," said John Shin, director of product development. MediaExecutive is an ad-free, subscription-based service that interoperates with any Web site built with the firm's content management system.

From the site visitor perspective, videos delivered by MediaExecutive appear to come from the domain of the site owner, such as Johns Hopkins' Urban Health Institute, whose videos are maintained at here.

Functionality includes:

  • Point and click video uploading from Mac OS X and Windows systems or another video device;
  • Video encoding to convert videos into Flash video format and to save videos in multiple resolutions, including high definition;
  • Management capabilities to let users categorize videos into channels and associate them with Web content;
  • Support for displaying and streaming through a customizable player and delivery network; and
  • Reporting to track statistics related to video usage.

Pricing for the service is based on an estimation of storage and bandwidth consumed.

Users of the company's content management system include American Public University System, based in Charles Town, WV, and Howard Community College in Columbia, MD.
