Cloud9 IDE Adds Integrated Support for Bitbucket and Mercurial

Cloud9 IDE has released a new version of its cloud-based integrated development environment for JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Ruby, PHP, and other programming languages. Cloud9 runs in a Web browser and stores code in the cloud, so developers can develop and deploy applications from anywhere using an Internet-connected device.

Cloud9 now supports Bitbucket code hosting and Mercurial distributed source control management. Developers can log in and sign up to Cloud9 using their Bitbucket account, which enables them to access their existing Bitbucket projects from Cloud9 and use Bitbucket's Mercurial distributed version control system (DVCS) and execute any Mercurial command from the command-line interface.

Cloud9 also has a new, cleaner dashboard interface that includes a recent activity stream, direct access to account settings, and new project creation and view screens.

Other features of this release of Cloud9 IDE include:

  • Integration of the JSBeautify plugin for JavaScript code in the editor;
  • Live syntax checking for CoffeeScript;
  • New OCaml, Clojure, and SASS language modes;
  • iOS-style scroll bars; and
  • A new "Save File As" dialog box.

Because Cloud9 IDE doesn't require developers to set up a development environment on their machine, it's designed for beginning Web developers as well. It also has a large, active user community on Google Groups to provide support.

Cloud9 IDE is available as a free edition or as a premium edition for $15 per month. Further information about the latest Cloud9 IDE release can be found on Cloud9's blog.
