Texas College Adds Classroom Wall Displays for Alerts

Texas College will be outfitting its classrooms with wall displays to communicate emergency messages. The Tyler, TX based institution, which has about 950 students, will be installing RAVENAlert wall displays this fall from IntelliGuard Systems, another Texas organization.

The system uses a dedicated channel to dispatch emergency notifications. When that happens, the wall unit, which can also be displayed on a flat surface, flashes red lights and sounds a loud tone. An LED screen displays the message and then the device audibly "reads" the message.

The college chose the display route to get around the safety problem of having students turn off their cell phones during class. "By adding the RAVENAlert Wall Displays to our classrooms, we've eliminated any potential gaps in alert coverage, significantly enhancing our ability to alert our entire campus community in the event of an emergency," said James Harris, Sr., the college's vice president of business and finance.
