York U Business School Receives Integrated Software Suite for Students of Statistical Analysis

York University's Schulich School of Business In Toronto, Ontario will adopt a suite of statistical software programs designed to enhance business students' programming and analysis skills.

For the next three years students and faculty in the school's one-year Master of Science in Business Analytics program, which launched in September 2012, will have unlimited complimentary use of an integrated bundle of 20 software programs from SAS Canada that will allow students to capture large data sets, write their own code, and study the field of analytics and big data.

Integrating technology with education, the software company donated 500 teaching licenses for use of its SAS Education Analytic Suite that will also include technical training and support. The software allows users to consolidate data from unrelated sources. Statistical analysis can then be used in a variety of ways, for instance, to predict outcomes based on historical patterns; to analyze economic data, problems, and trends; or to identify, monitor, and measure quality processes over time.

Four students are currently enrolled in the one-year program at Schulich, with a larger number of students expected to begin the master's program this fall.

"SAS Analytics is a tremendous learning tool for our students," said Murat Kristal, associate professor of operations management and information systems and director of Schulich's Master of Science in Business Analytics program, in a prepared statement. "It is one of the best statistical software programs in the industry. Anything you think of as being done by analytics and big data, this is the software program that does it."
