Far Eastern U Takes Business Courses To the Cloud

Students pursuing business degrees at Far Eastern University (FEU), in the Philippines, will soon be getting practical experience in enterprise resource planning (ERP), accounting, and auditing, thanks to a new partnership between the institution and NetSuite, a San Mateo, CA-based developer of cloud-based business software.

FEU has enrolled in NetSuite's SuiteAcademy, "an educational program designed to bring cloud-based business management solutions to university classrooms worldwide," according to a prepared statement from the company. The institution will use NetSuite's cloud-based ERP solution, which includes modules in accounting, auditing, supply chain management, and e-commerce, as part of the curriculum for third- and fourth-year business students. The new program begins this summer.

By incorporating NetSuite into the business coursework, the school hopes to prepare students for the workforce by giving them practice experience with cloud software, according to Celito C. Macachor, dean of the business school at FEU.

"We see the cloud as the future of software," said Macachor. "Introducing cloud-based business instruction through NetSuite SuiteAcademy can enable us to give students highly sought-after skills that today's employers covet as more companies migrate to NetSuite cloud business management."

NetSuite and FEU worked together to create the curriculum and train teachers. Professors received instruction on how to use NetSuite's modules and how the software "supports process flows and revenue cycles throughout an entire organization."

Far Eastern University, a private university founded in 1928, serves more than 29,000 students at two campuses, in Manila and Makati City. The institution offers programs in Accountancy and Business, Arts & Sciences, Architecture & Fine Arts, Education, Engineering and Computer Studies, Law and Medicine.
