EdX To Host Linux Systems Certification Course
The Linux
Foundation and edX
are partnering to offer an online
course designed to help people become Linux systems administrators.
The nonprofit, whose aim is to foster the growth of
collaborative software development, and the online learning platform
launched
by Harvard University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology will
offer
Introduction to Linux Systems Administration (LFS201) to help people
develop
the skills necessary to begin a career in information technology.
It is the second course the Linux Foundation has made
available via edX. The first, a free course, was Introduction to Linux
(LFS101), which is a prerequisite for LFS201. The fee for LFS201 will be
$499
and includes the registration fee for the Certified System Administrator
exam
along with the chance to take it one more time if the first
attempt is not
successful. There will be an introductory discount of $100 through June
17.
Enrollment is now open on edx.org and students can
begin
taking the course August 3. Both the course and the exam certifying its
completion can be taken online anytime from anywhere.
The course will include more than 100 labs and
hands-on
demonstrations.
"Our free Introduction to Linux course on edX brought
more
than 400,000 new people into the Linux community," said Linux Foundation
Executive Director Jim Zemlin. "Now we're calling on the people who are
serious
about taking the next step."
edX CEO Anant Agarwal added, "After the tremendous
response we
saw to LFS101, it is clear there is huge demand among early-career IT
professionals for Linux training."
