Turnitin has launched a new mobile app for its Gradescope assignment and grading platform that enables students to submit their assignments through any connected smartphone, the company announced this week, following a limited-access pilot in April.
The Gradescope mobile app is available at no cost on the Apple and Google app stores for smartphones.
Using the Gradescope mobile app, students can take photos of multiple-page assignments or select files on their smartphones and upload them directly to their assignment platform. On the app, students can also view their enrolled courses, assignments, due dates and grade notifications — whenever and wherever students may be located.
The Gradescope platform, built using 1EdTech's Learning Tools Interoperability standards, integrates with various learning management systems such as Canvas and Blackboard, with an institutional license. The platform allows educators to build, administer, and evaluate assignments and assessments, and reduces educator grading time by digitizing handwritten assignments and using AI to identify and score responses, Turnitin said.
With the Gradescope Mobile App, students using a smartphone can submit assignments without needing to use a third-party app or web browser, Turnitin said.
The Gradescope platform is used by 3.6 million students across 2,600 educational institutions, the company said.
