U of South Carolina Boosts IT Agility with Cloud Data Center Move

The University of South Carolina has replaced its data center with a custom cloud-based Software-Defined Data Center (SDDC) solution from digital infrastructure provider DartPoints. The move to the cloud will "significantly improve the university's IT agility," according to a news announcement, as well as reduce capital expenditures and provide better functionality, reliability and security.

"We needed a reputable provider that was readily available to ensure our team always has access to the critical data that keeps our campuses running across the state," explained Dan Schumacher, executive director of infrastructure services at UofSC, in a statement. "DartPoints is the ideal partner for our university and its solution is easy to use, highly configurable, and provides the comprehensive services we require."

The university will also benefit from improved disaster recovery capabilities and the protection of critical applications in the face of a catastrophic event, Schumacher noted. With compute and file share services hosted in the cloud, he added, IT can respond to issues more quickly, bypassing the long shipping times or equipment shortages that have plagued organizations during the pandemic.

"The university had a number of factors that needed to be addressed, including latency, data location, cost and technical expertise," shared DartPoints CTO Brad Alexander. "We were able to work with UofSC's team to develop a customized solution that addresses all of their needs"
