Anystream Nabs Lectopia, Launches Lecture Capture Division

Anystream this week acquired lecture capture technology provider Lectopia and added it to its higher education division, Apreso. The two units will be combined to form a new entity called Echo360, which will focus on lecture capture and dissemination.

Lectopia was formed at the University of Western Australia and presently has more than 500 classroom implementations in 20 institutions. Combined, the two have more than 1,000 installed classrooms.

According to a release issued by Anystream this week, "Echo360 will focus on scalable and affordable solutions for higher education. Echo360 products will capture classroom audio, video, and projected visual aids, to create a rich media experience, viewable from any computer. Mobile students can also take their 'echo' on the go by downloading lectures to their iPod or MP3 player."

Echo360 will formally debut this fall, with Apreso and Lectopia product lines undergoing integration over the course of the next year.
