Fayetteville State U Deploys Federal Signal Campus Safety and Security System

The 6,000-student Fayetteville State University in North Carolina has deployed a Federal Signal campus safety and security system to alert students, faculty and staff in the event of unsafe weather or dangerous campus conditions.

The system includes an electronic digital siren network that can produce tone-alerts and voice announcements heard throughout the campus community. The siren can plug into Federal Signal's Codespear-enabled industry platform to enable simultaneous activation of sirens and alerting to cell phones, landline phones, radios, PDAs, pagers, e-mail addresses, and other indoor warning devices. The platform provides distributed instant messaging and scenario management features.

"You want to have as many layers of notification as possible," said Travis Bryant, public safety director for the university. "Campus safety is a top priority at Fayetteville State."

Other higher ed installations of the Federal Signal system include Webber International University in Florida and the University of Texas at Austin.
