Patch Bolsters Moodles Course Creation Features

Moodlerooms, a service provider for the open source Moodle learning management system, has released a patch designed to enhance Moodle's external database authentication and enrollment plugins. Moodlerooms contributed the patch to the Moodle community this week; users can vote to make it a standard component of Moodle.

The patch, "Enroll External Database," adds a number of enhancements to the current plugin, including the addition of enrollment periods, the use of an external tale to hold course information, and the addition of automatic category creation. (A complete list of enhancements can be found here.) The patch will allow users to "create up to 100,000 new accounts in under 30 minutes," according to information released by Moodlerooms.

"These enhancements create a solution for any Moodle administrator looking to automatically create new courses complete with activities, blocks and resources or automatically recreate complete courses from previous semesters," said Jason Hardin, a project manager at Moodlerooms, in a statement released Wednesday.

The Enroll External Database patch is available now as a free download. Further information can be found here.
