Northeastern Adopts Video Content Management for News Portal

Northeastern University is deploying a new content management system to to help simplify management of video used on the university's news portal.

Northeastern said it was looking for a way to make content more easily accessible to students and faculty and to make management of this content simpler in an environment in which video is uploaded several times per day. So it selected Ensemble Server from MediaPointe, a developer of video management, storage, and capture technologies. Ensemble Server is a video content management and publishing system with wizard-driven content administration to help minimize training requirements for users. It supports a variety of formats, including QuickTime, Windows Media, Real, MPEG-4, Flash, and others.

"We recently launched a robust news Web site that we update several times a day with content so we needed an easy and efficient way to upload our videos," said Ann M. Comer-Woods, director of strategic marketing and brand management for Northeastern University, in a statement released Tuesday. "We produce a significant amount of video content and need a centralized way to upload and access them. We're looking forward to using MediaPointe Ensemble to make our multimedia content easily accessible to our students, faculty and alumni."

The system allows students, faculty, and other end users to access files from anywhere and download them to their digital media players.

Added Comer-Woods: "When MediaPointe Ensemble is fully implemented, users can access archives, search by keyword, view videos full-screen size and may copy code and embed videos on their own sites."
