Ohio University Signs Ciber To Help Build New SIS

Ohio University in Athens has awarded a 20-month contract to service provider Ciber to create a new student information system (SIS). Ciber's Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Higher Education Practice and Global Enterprise Integration Practice (GEIP) will work with the university on the project, which is the largest and most complex one ever undertaken by its Office of IT. In a statement the university said it expects to realize a significant return on investment from the technology once the initiative is completed. Ciber's consultants are providing Ohio U with project management, functional, and technical leadership and support.

This project includes the implementation of the latest Oracle PeopleSoft Campus Solutions System, Oracle's Data Privacy Shield, an SOA component and integration build on redLantern's campus suite, constituent relationship management, and the rollout of an identity management solution.

The university currently runs on an aging mainframe that will lose its support in 2010. Through the collaboration with Ciber, the university will replace its existing SIS with the intention of improving the delivery of services to its students, faculty, and staff through workflow, service oriented architecture, and Web-enabled services.

"Ohio University is partnering with Ciber to significantly change how technology aids in the delivery of services to students and faculty," said CIO Brice Bible. "Ciber's expertise with complex higher education projects made them well equipped to assist us with this extensive transformation."

Ohio U is a large research university with 28,000 students spread over six campuses.
