CourseSmart Releases E-Textbook Reader

CourseSmart has released a beta version of a new e-textbook reader.

The platform, which uses HTML5 technology and Mozilla Firefox version 5.0, allows users to switch between studying online and offline. HTML5 is the fifth version of the online programming language. It is compatible with major Web browsers and mobile devices and supports multimedia without using Flash.

The new e-textbook reader also:

  • Is compatible for reading on Android devices, iPad, iPhone and iPod touch with CourseSmart Apps (offline reading within the app for the iPad only);
  • Allows reading e-textbooks on mobile devices within a browser;
  • Searches within the e-textbook, chapter or page (only within the page when reading offline);
  • Lets the user take notes and highlight text;
  • Shows pages as they appear in print;
  • Has a navigation system, with linked table of contents; and
  • Prints up to 10 pages at a time.

In addition, the new e-reader lets teachers complete e-textbook evaluations online or offline. It also synchronizes notes across all platforms, including desktop computers, laptops, iOS devices, Android devices, and Web-enabled devices.

CourseSmart also provides e-resources, which complement e-textbooks, that include online homework, online quizzing and exercises, simulations and videos.
