New Media Consortium Launches Social Sharing Platform

The New Media Consortium (NMC) is launching a new site with a social sharing and collaboration platform, a move intended to improve member services, encourage collaboration, and support the production of the NMC Horizon Report series.

The new social platform, named "The NMC Commons", will run on the HiveSocial software-as-a-service application from Enterprise Hive and will enable the consortium to create online communities where its members from college and university campuses, think tanks, labs, research centers, as well as NMC staff, board members, and advisors, can gather to share information and discuss ideas.

"The NMC Commons platform will provide a way for NMCers to more seamlessly collaborate, share, and explore new ideas, and disseminate information about what's happening across their campuses," said Larry Johnson, CEO of NMC, in a prepared statement. "It is a great opportunity for our members to engage with each other around the subjects and content that are meaningful to them."

The NMC Commons will enable members to create personal online profiles, share announcements about jobs and events, and post blogs. HiveSocial also includes wiki software, which will replace the existing NMC Horizon Project wikis. The NMC Horizon Project publishes five to ten reports each year as part of its NMC Horizon Report series, and the new wiki is expected to save time for NMC staff.

The New Media Consortium is an international not-for-profit group consisting of hundreds of universities, colleges, museums, and other organizations focused on new media and technology in education.

Further information about HiveSocial is available on the Hive Enterprise site.
