CampusMD Offers Nationwide Telehealth Service for College Students
CampusMD has launched a nationwide telehealth service for college students. The service offers any-time access through telephone, online video, or secure email to physicians licensed in the United States. It enables students to receive diagnosis and treatment of common conditions and, in some cases, obtain prescriptions, although more complicated diagnostic consultations and those requiring a prescription may require students to make an appointment before speaking with a physician.
The subscription-based service is available through two paths. Students or their parents can purchase the service directly from CampusMD or through partner colleges and universities. Institutions can also purchase subscriptions for their entire student body. Four educational institutions have already partnered with CampusMD, and the company is currently pursuing partnerships with more schools.
The service is underwritten by HealthNation. According to the company, students are not required to have health insurance to use the service, and there are no exclusions, copayments, or deductibles. If students require any lab tests or prescriptions as a result of their telehealth consultation, the students' health insurance provider determines whether those tests and prescriptions will be covered.
"CampusMD complements on-campus health services with immediate, affordable, integrated care," said Devin Schain, CEO of CampusMD, in a prepared statement. "Participating students have around-the-clock access to doctors who can treat more than 500 common conditions as effectively as with an office visit, but at a fraction of the cost. Institutions can extend their health service's hours without incurring infrastructure or personnel costs."
For students and parents who want to purchase the service directly, the cost is $17.95 per month or $199.95 annually. Educational institutions can purchase coverage for their entire student body on a wholesale basis.
