Oracle PeopleSoft Campus Solutions Gains New Mobile Features

Oracle has released new mobile features for the PeopleSoft Campus Solutions suite. The features let students use their mobile devices to view and manage class and grade information through a secure application.

Oracle built the mobile features using Oracle Application Development Framework (ADF) Mobile, which enables higher education institutions to extend their mobile apps to include Web sites and other content intended for student access, and to use existing PeopleSoft Campus Solutions' security features and SMS or e-mail notification in mobile apps.

The company developed the mobile features using its Continuous Delivery Model, which lets colleges and universities roll out new functionality in periodic application bundles to avoid major service disruptions related to large-scale upgrades.

Mobile enhancements to PeopleSoft Campus Solutions enable students to:

  • Enroll in, add, and drop classes;
  • View class schedules, instructors, and locations;
  • Access grades;
  • Receive notifications;
  • Search class schedules with filtering options; and
  • Monitor academic progress.

Oracle also announced further mobile enhancements for release later this year, which will let students integrate calendars; view account balances and financial aid information; view faculty contact information; manage checklists; access academic history and progress; plan class schedules; and take action on notifications such as open class seats.

Oracle will hold a Webinar about the new mobile features, "PeopleSoft Campus Solutions Goes Mobile" Wednesday, May 22.

In other Oracle news, the company has announced general availability of Oracle Business Intelligence (BI) Applications Release 11.1.1.7.1. The new release offers "significant enhancements across the entire BI Applications product line," according to the company, including new visualizations, an improved user interface, significant data access updates, faster implementation, and improved real-time reporting.

This version of Oracle BI Applications also includes an improved version of Oracle Student Information Analytics, which provides a new in-memory application "to enable academic institutions to make better, more strategic decisions and maximize student recruiting efforts," according to the company.

    ChatGPT creator OpenAI is backing a California bill that would require tech companies to label AI-generated content in the form of a digital "watermark." The proposed legislation, known as the "California Digital Content Provenance Standards" (AB 3211), aims to ensure transparency in digital media by identifying content created through artificial intelligence. This requirement would apply to a broad range of AI-generated material, from harmless memes to deepfakes that could be used to spread misinformation about political candidates.
