Brightspace LMS Adds New Analytics Tools

D2L has debuted the Autumn15 release of its Brightspace learning management system (LMS), which includes a variety of new analytics features and reports.

According to information from the company, the product helps teachers collect data about their students' learning activities on mobile devices, whether the students are in or out of class, and monitor student progress through Brightspace's new analytics reports.

New features of the Brightspace Autumn15 release include:

  • The addition of the Learning Analytics Blueprint service to Brightspace Insights, with experts in change management, data governance and data sciences who can help educational institutions make use of analytics;
  • The ability to both send and receive student data through IMS Caliper, so teachers can monitor how students are interacting with videos, apps, games and other content;
  • IMS Caliper certification for Brightspace Pulse, D2L's iOS and Android app for students, so teachers can access student data generated within the app;
  • Support for the video analytics with the Kaltura video platform, so teachers can stream user video data back into Brightspace Insights;
  • Course Access Reports that show how often students log into a course and how much time they spend accessing course content;
  • Tool Usage Reports that show teachers which learning tools students are using;
  • User progress enhancements with a single interface to show teachers how well a student is performing; and
  • Student Success System for at-risk students to help teachers identify potential issues and engage directly with the student in real-time.
